Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8s Gen 3: Bringing Advanced AI to Android Phones

Qualcomm has just unveiled its latest flagship mobile platform, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, boasting on-device generative AI capabilities. This cutting-edge processor is set to revolutionize Android smartphones, with major OEMs like Honor, iQOO, realme, Redmi, and Xiaomi preparing to launch devices powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is primed to support large language models and on-device AI models with up to 10 billion parameters. This enables exciting features such as generative AI assistants, on-device image generation, and enhanced camera experiences, all aimed at enhancing user productivity and creativity in daily life.

Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Handsets at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., emphasizes the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3’s focus on enriching user experiences through its on-device generative AI and advanced photography features.

Key highlights of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 include support for major language models like Baichuan-7B, Llama 2, and Google’s Gemini Nano. Additionally, the processor excels in tasks such as powering generative-AI-driven virtual assistants, image generation, and multi-modal gen-AI model support.

In terms of specifications, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 boasts an octa-core processor configuration, featuring one prime core clocked at 3GHz, four performance cores at 2.8GHz, and three efficiency cores with speeds of up to 2GHz. Fabricated using TSMC’s 4nm process, it also incorporates the latest Adreno GPU for exceptional graphics performance.

While the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 supports real-time hardware-accelerated ray tracing and features the Snapdragon X70 5G Modem-RF System for blazing-fast connectivity, it does not support Global illumination like its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Nevertheless, it offers Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, support for up to 200 MP cameras, and fast UFS 4.0 storage.
